Jacob Carney

Clarksville police upgraded charges for a local teen after he turned 18 years old in the May killing of his biological grandmother.

Police moved Jacob Carney to adult court July 27 after he turned 18 and charged him with first-degree murder and attempted murder. His total bond was set at $5 million.

Detectives initially charged Jacob Carney, then-17, with criminal homicide and attempted criminal homicide a day after the May 11 early morning attack and subsequent death of Mary Carney, 67, his biological paternal grandmother who adopted him. A second unidentified victim survived the attack and recovered, police said. The incident happened at a home in the 2000 block of Ellsworth Drive, and police said at the time Jacob Carney was the lone suspect in the case.

Detective Keenan Carlton is the lead investigator.
