The Clarksville parks and recreation department held Clarksville’s third-annual Clarksville Barbecue Bash on Oct. 19 at Liberty Park.

The event included a full barbecue competition, people’s choice, cornhole tournament, artisan vendors and children’s activities.

Nineteen competitors from near and far met on the banks of the Cumberland River last weekend to see who had the best barbeque. A team of judges evaluated barbeque in three categories – pork, chicken and ribs – based on taste, appearance and texture. Trophies and $5,000 were awarded to the competitors.

The Big Orange Smokers team was crowned grand champion and received $1,000. The team also won the chicken and categories and added $650 each to its winnings. The Big Orange Smokers also finished third for ribs and won $250.

Smokin in the Country finished second in chicken and received $400. C3Cookers finished third. In ribs, Big B’s BBQ won, and RT Que finished second. Big B’s BBQ also finished runner up in pork, followed by Piggy Smalls and the Spice Boys in third.

Barbecue Bash attendees were invited to visit the Queener Law people’s choice tent to sample barbecue for free from participating teams and vote for their favorite. There were two winners, both with the same number of votes, Smoke'm If U Got'm and Old Hogs BBQ. Each team won $50.

Seventeen teams competed in the Appleton Harley Davidson ACL Cornhole Tournament not only for bragging rights and a trophy, but also money awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams. Miguel Hernandez and Martina Belt won and received $350. Second went to Marcus Wybrew and Torry Bennight, who received $150. Third went to the Hole Seekers team of Sean and Stacy O’Bryan, who got $50.

The Clarksville parks and recreation presented the Clarksville Barbecue Bash, and Coors Lite, Hilltop Supermarket, Queener Law, Appleton’s Harley-Davidson, Bojangles, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarksville, Sunbelt Rentals, Gerald Printing, Blocker Farms, Real Life Church, Miggy Boards, Austin Peay State University and Liberty Park Grill sponsored it.
