Following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, many in Clarksville have come together to protest racial injustices in the United States. Most recently, several black members of the community hosted the event dubbed “Breathe Clarksville” on Saturday at Veteran’s Plaza.
The event was hosted to bring information into the community on how to inspire positive change toward equality in the United States. Speakers discussed their past, roles in politics, education, health care and criminal justice while some performed musical numbers or read spoken word poetry.
A DJ was on-site to provide entertainment in-between speakers. The temperature was as high as 99 degrees Fahrenheit and many attendees handed out free bottled water and popsicles to help combat the heat.
