Gateway Chamber Orchestra

Season tickets are available for the Gateway Chamber Orchestra’s upcoming season, Emotion Abounds. This season will present the works of Franz Joseph Hayden, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and other composers who have come to define the GCO’s sound and approach, as well as a wide selection of top-notch guest performances. Music director Gregory Wolynec is featured on promotional materials.

Gateway Chamber Orchestra will hold its annual family concert, “The Nutcracker Suite with Anna Celenza” on Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. 

Children’s pre-concert activities will begin at 2 p.m. 

The whole family will enjoy the special children-friendly event that will feature award-winning children’s author Celenza. The performance will feature Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite,” as well as Duke Ellington’s jazz-influenced reinvention. The music will be accompanied by a multimedia experience with a special reading by Celenza of her book, “Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker Suite,” featuring illustrations by Don Tate. Join the GCO for children’s pre-concert activities, including an instrument “petting zoo,” starting one hour before the concert.

The season, titled “Emotion Abounds,” will present a slate of programs that will feature favorite composers of the GCO, including Mozart, Schubert, Schoenburg and Haydn, who will be celebrated in the annual America’s Haydn Festival on April 5. The season will also offer a number of special events, including the holiday favorite Winter Baroque and the second-annual BBQ, Brews & Beethoven, featuring Copland’s “Appalachian Suite,” local craft beer and barbecue.

Tickets are on sale for the Nutcracker Suite with Anna Celenza on Nov. 17. Individual ticket prices range from $18 to $30 with discounts given to students and active-duty military or reserve.
