Austin Peay students, fans and alumni enjoy the 1970 homecoming parade. SUBMITTED

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Austin Peay State University recently announced it is moving its traditional fall homecoming activities from the week of Oct. 10 to the spring 2021 semester, in conjunction with the Ohio Valley Conference decision to postpone fall sports until spring.

To celebrate the week leading up to what would have been Austin Peay’s fall homecoming, the Austin Peay office of Aaumni relations planned several virtual activities for alumni and friends to enjoy remotely.

The celebration, known as “remembering homecoming,” will run through Oct. 9. The celebration also coincides with the Run for the Govs Virtual 5K, which is open to alumni and friends through Oct. 10. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Austin Peay National Alumni Association alumni group designated scholarships and funds. To register, visit alumni.apsu.edu/5k20.

The schedule of homecoming events includes:

• Oct. 8 – Military Alumni Chapter Scholarship Virtual Ceremony with military alumni honored.

• Oct. 9 – Downey Baseball Operations Center and Clubhouse virtual ribbon          cutting with football alumni honored.

• Oct. 10 – Run for the Govs Virtual 5K ends.

All virtual activities will be available on the Austin Peay alumni social media accounts, including Facebook at facebook.com/APSUAlumni, Twitter @APSUAlumni and Instagram at instagram.com/apsualumni. Alumni and friends are encouraged to participate by sending their Austin Peay stories, memories and pictures to petersonn@apsu.edu. The content will then be shared on social media throughout the week leading up to Oct. 10.
