Jaime Taylor, one of last year’s three finalists in the presidential search for Austin Peay State University, is heading to Beaumont, Texas, to become president of Lamar University, according to the university’s web-site.

Lamar University’s chancellor selected Taylor as the sole finalist in its search for its next president June 8.

Taylor served since 2018 as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia.

He previously served as interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at Austin Peay State University, where he spent most of his career as a faculty member in the department of physics and astronomy.

In December, Taylor, along with Michael Licari and Dannelle Whiteside, were announced as the three finalists for the president of Austin Peay.

While Licari was appointed, Taylor received quite a bit of support from a few trustees who spoke highly of his history at Austin Peay.

Texas law requires a 21-day waiting period before the Texas State University System Board of Regents can consider Taylor’s nomination.

If confirmed, he will become Lamar University’s 16th president.
