Madeleines Place is a lovely French bistro on Strawberry Alley in Clarksville’s historic downtown district.
Upon entering the boutique eatery, the staff was welcoming and friendly, while the bistro itself was comfortable and vibrant. Couch-style bench seating lined the walls, with pillows to enhance comfort. Wooden tables were placed in front of the benches to give a relaxed dining experience. The overall effect was cordial and pretty.
Now let’s talk about the food. Oh my goodness, what wonderful food. The menu at Madeleines has a nice variety, with brunch-style options like the amazing homemade crepes, a nice array of coffee drinks and sandwiches, soups and salads.
I decided to get the Croque Monsieur, and I must say, this sandwich was exceptional. Lightly toasted sourdough bread was topped with smoked ham and smothered in béchamel sauce. It was then topped with Swiss cheese and toasted. The béchamel sauce really took this sandwich to another level. It’s a seasoned white sauce that is creamy and rich. The richness of the sauce really complemented the smoky flavor of the ham. The Swiss cheese gave this sandwich a perfect finish. Absolutely divine, I’ve really never had anything else quite like it.
My lunch companion opted for the Reuben sandwich. I had never had a Reuben sandwich before, so we shared our meals so we could each have a little variety. I can’t believe I missed out on this sandwich my entire life. Perfectly toasted sourdough bread with a hint of 1,000 Island dressing loaded up with crisp and tangy sauerkraut, grilled corned beef and Swiss cheese; it was delicious. The flavors of this sandwich went one off of the other. The vinegary goodness of the sauerkraut and the salt of the grilled corned beef went together seamlessly. The Swiss cheese just enhanced these bold flavors, while the 1,000 Island dressing gave it a nice kick of tangy flavor for a big finish.
Now I had never been to Madeleines Place before, but my friend had. She said, “We are going to have some dessert. There’s something you’ve gotta try.” She then went and ordered us the strawberry crepe. There just aren’t enough words to say how amazing these crepes were, but I’m going to give it a shot.
Light and fluffy handmade crepes were stuffed full of luscious red strawberries and a homemade sweet cream. The sweet cream was the star of the show, with hints of cream cheese and delightfully sweet, but not too much, it made this dish positively sing. Dusted with powdered sugar and garnished with strawberry sauce, it was magnificent.
So many wonderful foods, so little time. I will definitely return to Madeleines Place. Everything about it was wonderful. From the fantastic service, beautiful atmosphere and, of course, the utterly amazing food, it was a great experience on every level. The price point for Madeleines Place was great, too, with all of the menu items coming in at less than $10. And if you don’t happen to be close to downtown Clarksville, there’s no need to worry, because Madeleines Place has two locations. Madeleines Place is at 2185 Wilma Rudolph Blvd., Suite B & C, or at its newest location on Strawberry Alley.
