If you’re a fan of weird box scores, the Austin Peay vs. Western Kentucky basketball game was perfect for you.

The Hilltoppers defeated the Governors 97-75 in Bowling Green, despite the Govs pulling down 20 offensive rebounds and only 28 rebounds altogether.

Even stranger, off those 20 boards came only 16 second-chance points.

The Governors scored just 25 points in the first half on 29.4 percent shooting and 11.1 percent from three. They erupted in the second half, putting 50 on the board and making half of their shots.

Unfortunately for APSU, the Hilltoppers scored 56 in the second half to keep them at an arm’s length.

The game was close up until the end of the first half. APSU trailed 23-18 before WKU ripped off an 18-5 run to close out the opening half, giving them more than enough to close things out.

Terry Taylor starred for the Govs, scoring 22 points with seven rebounds – all offensive – and two steals. Newcomer Antwuan Butler scored 12 points with five assists and three rebounds.

Inefficiency killed APSU. Not only were the Govs unable to capitalize on put-backs, they shot poorly from beyond the arc, making just four of their 21 attempts – a lowly 19 percent. Despite making half of their shots over the final 20 minutes, they still only made 39.7 percent of their total shots.

The Govs (1-1) will look to get back in the win column against Tulsa. The road tilt will tip-off on Saturday at 2 p.m.
