Clarksville-Montgomery County School System announced on Thursday that all classes and school related activities -- including sports -- have been canceled/postponed through May 1 due to the coronavirus pandemic with a tentative return date set at May 4.
Chief Communications Officer Elise Shelton’s email detailing the updates reads as follows.
“The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System values the health and well-being of our students, staff, and families. We work throughout the year to promote healthy schools, and safety is our number one priority.
From March 30 through May 1, school buildings will be closed and all athletics/activities (including practices) and before- and after-school programs and events will be canceled or postponed. Our current plan is for students to return to school on May 4. This date is subject to change depending on the recommendation of the CDC and Health Department officials.
We are working toward providing students with continued learning opportunities that will be shared in the coming days.
Please visit our webpage at www.cmcss.net for detailed information.”
The announcement is the largest so far in the COVID-19 saga. The district initially canceled classes and events through spring break with a return date potentially at Monday, March 30. This new scheduled return sets that timeline back five extra weeks.
The district’s final baseball games were originally scheduled for Monday, April 27, softball through April 28 and soccer through April 30. This timeline lasts beyond the end of each season.
There is no set plan on whether or not those games will be made up once activities resume.
