The TSSAA recently announced the newest athletics school classifications for the 2021-2023 seasons for all sports.

While many Clarksville-Montgomery County schools will remain in the regions they’re currently in, a few will have a change of scenery in some sports. All information was obtained from the official TSSAA website.

Football:

Division I-6A: Clarksville High School, Rossview High School, West Creek High School.

Division I-5A: Kenwood High School, Northeast High School, Northwest High School.

Division I-4A: Montgomery Central High School.

Division II-A: Clarksville Academy.

The only classification changes in football are jumps in rank, with the Clarksville Wildcats and West Creek Coyotes making the jump from 5A to 6A. The big takeaway here is that the CHS vs. Rossview football rivalry will now mean more than just bragging rights. The two schools will almost certainly be in the same region, meaning that it will count toward playoff eligibility too.

West Creek has struggled to stay afloat in 5A recently, so their move to 6A is an interesting one.

Naturally, this will split up the CMCSS schools -- we’ve gotten used to having six of them all in Region 7-5A, but there will now be no more than three in any one region.

Basketball, Baseball and Softball:

Division I-AAAA: Clarksville High School, Kenwood High School, Northeast High School, Northwest High School, Rossview High School, West Creek High School.

Division I-AAA: Montgomery Central High School.

The only change among these three sports is Montgomery Central dropping from AAAA to AAA. The move makes sense, especially in basketball where the Indians and Lady Indians struggled to keep up with their CMCSS counterparts every year.

Clarksville Academy was not listed on the TSSAA report for this sport.

Volleyball:

Division I-AAA: Clarksville High School, Kenwood High School, Northeast High School, Northwest High School, Rossview High School, West Creek High School.

Division I-AA: Montgomery Central High School.

Similarly to basketball, baseball and softball, the six Clarksville public schools are in the largest Division I class while MCHS remains in the middle tier. There was no change between the current and new classifications.

Clarksville Academy was not listed.

Boys and girls soccer:

Division I-AAA: Clarksville High School, Kenwood High School, Northeast High School, Northwest High School, Rossview High School, West Creek High School.

Division I-AA: Montgomery Central High School.

Kenwood and Montgomery Central both make the leap out of Division I-A in this update. The Knights and Lady Knights climb all the way to Division I-AAA while the Indians and Lady Indians join the Division I-AA ranks.
