The Clarksville Academy Lady Cougars and Davidson Academy Lady Bears had an epic battle in the 2020 District 4 semifinals where CA finished on top by just three points.

The two basketball teams met for the first time since then on Tuesday, Dec. 1 in Clarksville, but a lot has changed; the Lady Cougars lost star Sydneey Boykin and have a new head coach at the helm. Plus, both teams were coming off quarantines due to COVID-19 – something that was still a non-factor during the two teams’ last meetup on Valentines Day.

One thing that didn’t change was the result – the Lady Cougars were the victors 51-46.

The reigning district champions jumped out to an 11-9 advantage in the first quarter, but Davidson Academy rallied in the second to force a 21-21 tie heading into halftime.

However, a big third quarter that saw six different Lady Cougars score at least two points put CA in a good position and the Lady Bears’ late rally fell a few points short.

“We really feel like some of the scheme things that we did, breaking the press, would kind of throw them off and we were waiting to see if they’d adjust which they did like all good teams do,” said DA head coach Adrian Williamson. “A lot of respect to coach (Charles) Clark, he’s been coaching a long time. We’re just hoping that the things we see on film will help us when we see them at DA.”

Each team got their points differently. For the Lady Cougars, they received scoring from an array of talent, getting eight different players in the point column with only one in double-digits. Atyia Moss led the way with 10 points.

It was only the second game of the year for them after a two-week shutdown – the first being a win over new head coach Charles Clark’s former team, the Kenwood Lady Knights, over the weekend. It’s also their first district victory of the year.

As for Davidson Academy, all of their scoring came from just four players with three of them reaching double-figures. The Lady Bears had just eight girls active after two players had to miss the game due to COVID-19 contact tracing.

The Lady Cougars will return to action on Friday, Dec. 4 against Friendship Christian while Davidson Academy will look for their first district win the same night against Nashville Christian.
