CLARKSVILLE – The 2018-19 10-AAA champion Rossview Lady Hawks didn’t skip a beat Tuesday, Dec. 3 against West Creek, even without head coach Justin Woods.

Woods’ absence from the Rossview’s district opener (illness) left assistant coaches Vic Shelton and Kylie McWhirter at the helm against the Lady Coyotes.

Despite only holding an eight-point advantage at halftime, the Lady Hawks upped their intensity in the final two frames to emerge with a 63-26 victory. The Lady Coyotes were outscored 37-6 in the final two quarters.

“We had zero intensity in the first half, which means there’s nowhere to go but up,” Shelton said. “We had a nice discussion about that at halftime.”

Rossview’s second-half energy was initiated by a full court press in the third quarter, a scheme that West Creek was seemingly not expecting. The Lady Coyotes committed 12 turnovers in the third quarter alone and 22 total by the final buzzer.

The win marked Rossview’s 26th consecutive win against district opponents, dating back to the 2017-18 season. Rossview also snapped a streak of back-to-back home defeats, which had not happened since the 2009-10 season.

Rossview’s Kayla Gilmore led all scorers with 17 points in limited action. Alexis Parkes notched 13 of West Creek’s 24 points.

The Lady Hawks improved to 3-2 and will travel to Clarksville (1-3) on Friday. Meanwhile, West Creek will look to bounce back, as the Lady Coyotes host Springfield (0-6). West Creek (0-4) has lost its games by an average margin of 53 points.
