Even when the Rossview Hawks can’t score – at least by their standards – they’re winning big soccer games by multiple goals.
That’s what happened on Tuesday night when the District 13-3A champions hosted the Dickson County Cougars for the Region 7-3A semifinals.
“I don’t know what the stats are on how many shots we had tonight, but it felt like we were attacking in space, maybe the best we’ve done all year,” said RHS head coach Seth Ramsey. “We just weren’t clinical in front of the net. I’d be curious to go see how many shots we had. That’s soccer some nights – that’s just the sport.”
Despite their inability to finish most of the time, the Hawks still defeated the Cougars 3-1, advancing to the region title game along with a berth into the state sectional.
The two teams had met just 12 days prior, with the Hawks winning by the same score. Though they used some of their experience from that contest to prepare, Rossview was more focused on themselves.

“A little bit in terms of what we worked on yesterday,” Ramsey said. “Thinking about some things, we could attack some space here, there. But at the same time, we kind of focused on us. What do we need to do?”
As he has all season, Rossview’s Chance Siler began the scoring with a goal in the 13th minute to give his team an early advantage. That score held through halftime, but Dickson County nailed an equalizer in the 62nd minute.
The deadlock was short-lived, though, as Siler scored his second goal of the night just five minutes later, giving the Cougars a short window to save their season.
Dickson head coach Christopher Cardona opted to play only three back in the final five minutes in an attempt to up the offensive intensity, but the thinned-out backfield allowed the Hawks’ Graham Duncan to nail the final goal from deep with three minutes left.
Despite the loss, Cardona is proud of the way his team competed against the now 14-1-1 Hawks.

“Considering where we came, where we started, and to be in a regional game and have an opportunity to win it, couldn’t ask for anything more out of these guys,” he said. “Especially these seniors; they really stepped up as leaders this season. We had a rough start in the Smoky Mountain Cup, so just to be able to put it all together and play at a high level and play how I wanted them to play – with intensity and passion. They were passing really well and making some great plays defensively.”
They finish the season 6-11-2.
Rossview will visit the Henry County Patriots (9-5-1) for the region championship on Thursday, May 19. The Hawks defeated the Patriots 3-2 on March 14 in their only previous meeting this season.
The winner will host a sectional game on Saturday, May 21.
