State Golf

The 2020 Division II A and AA boys and girls golf state championships were held on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 12-13 in Manchester, Tenn. at the WillowBrook Golf Club. 

Golfers from Franklin Road Academy, Clarksville Academy, Grace Christian-Franklin, Montgomery Bell Academy, Ensworth, Father Ryan, Providence Christian, Pope John Paul II and Brentwood Academy participated in the event.

DII-A Boys

The Franklin Road Academy boys finished tied for fourth place out of six teams in the DII-A competition, shooting 63 over par (639) across the two days of competition.

In the boys individual competition, Franklin Road’s Timothy Pinkston tied for fourth place, shooting four-over par (148) while his teammates George Felker placed 13th at 12-over (156), Aiden Call placed 22nd at 21-over (165), Aaron Schierbaum placed 25th at 26-over (170) and Paul Sposato came in 33rd at 53-over (197). 

Clarksville Academy’s Patton Samuels also participated, tying for sixth place, shooting five-over par (149) and Grace Christian-Franklin’s Josh Breland tied for 14th at 13--over (157). 

DII-AA Boys

In DII-AA action, Montgomery Bell Academy tied for second place in team play at 33-over (609) and Ensworth finished fourth at 38-over (614). 

MBA’s Bradford Cummins tied for fifth place in individuals, shooting five-over (149) while teammates Max Hastings tied for 10th at seven-over (151), Reid Smith tied for 15th at 10-over (154), Joseph Robertson tied for 19th at 12-over (156) and Jack Manning tied for 29th at 18-over (164). 

Ensworth’s top individual finisher was Clark Akers, who also tied for fifth at five-over (149). Additionally, for the Tigers, Bo Maradik tied for 13th at nine-over (153), Ethan Standford tied for 17th at 11-over (155) and Toby Wilt tied for 22nd at 13-over (157). 

Father Ryan’s Jacob Garland shot six-over-par, good for ninth place. 

DII-A Girls

Franklin Road Academy was once again well represented in girls competition, where they took the top prize in team play. The group finished 14-over-par (302) -- 10 strokes better than the next best team. Their top individual -- Emily Wilson -- finished with the best score overall at one-over (145). Tzunami Polito cracked the top four by finishing 14-over (158) while Antonia Morgan rounded out the team with a 22-over (164), good for 11th place. 

Providence Christian clocked in at third place, shooting 30-over (318). Their two participants -- Caroline Pardue and Isabella Johnson -- tied for fifth place in individuals, each shooting 15-over (159). 

Battle Ground Academy’s Jackie Henderson tied for seventh place at 16-over (160) while Donelson Christian’s Sloane Biddle tied for 10th at 20-over (164). 

DII-AA Girls

Lipscomb Academy’s girls golf squad finished second in team competition, shooting 31-over (319). Ava Bankston was their top finisher, checking in at fourth place with a seven-over (151). Her teammates Emma Markus and Jillian Bowman finished 12th at 24-over (168) and 15th at 43-over (187) respectively. 

Ensworth finished right behind at third place at 34-over (322). Savannah Cherry (eighth place, 16-over, 160) and Alexandra Crews (10th place, 18-over, 162) represented them in the top 10. 

Individually, Pope John Paul II’s Kynadie Adams finished at the top of the individual leaderboards, shooting three-under par (141). Brentwood Academy’s Helen Phillips finished 16th overall at 44-over (188).
