Tahannee Bennell passes to a teammate. Bennell was one of three players suspended from the basketball team and was arrested with one charge of shoplifting.

Three Austin Peay women’s basketball players -- Kasey Kidwell, Tahanee Bennell and Ella Sawyer -- have been suspended indefinitely from the team, the Governors announced on Nov. 16 in an archived post.

The suspensions were due to “violations of team and athletics department policy.” No other reasons were given.

However, two of the players -- Kidwell and Bennell -- have appeared on Montgomery County’s booking log. Kidwell was arrested on Nov. 16 at 7:36 p.m. for five counts of shoplifting at Walmart on Wilma Rudolph Blvd. Accounts indicate that Kidwell mis-scanned items for a value of about $60.

Bennell’s arrest came on Nov. 24 at 12:05 a.m. for one count of shoplifting. Further details have yet to be released.

Both players have been released. Sawyer’s involvement is currently unknown, as is Bennell’s initial involvement in Kidwell’s case.

The story will be updated as more details become available.
