A Clarksville woman has been arrested and charged with abuse of the elderly after allegedly neglecting the care of her 89-year-old bedridden mother.
According to court records, Clarksville Police made a welfare check at the home of Teresa Ann Price, 59, following an Affidavit of Complaint that was dated on Thursday, October 7, the same day Price was arrested.
When authorities entered the home in question, officers said Price was under the influence of an unknown substance, with the odor of alcohol emitting from her breath.
Price is the caretaker for her mother in the home.
Police said Price would not fully answer questions about her mother’s health. They also said she could not tell them what day of the week it was, though they gave her the information.
Part of Price’s responsibilities of caring for her bedridden mother is giving her daily medications, though Price reportedly told officers her mother does not take medicine, contrary to what the mother reported.
“The victim stated that she has to wear a diaper due to her condition and she stated that the defendant has not changed her diaper in over 24 hours,” the documents said.
According to the victim, requests to have her diaper changed would go unanswered.
Officers reported the house to be in disarray, with dog poop throughout it.
Police said the victim had not eaten since the previous day, though Price was responsible for feeding her.
“The fridge in the kitchen was left wide open and when officers asked the defendant how long the fridge was open, she replied she does not know, because she did not open it,” the document said.
Police said Price told them her mother must have opened the refrigerator door.
Price was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County jail.
Her mother was taken by EMS to Tennova Healthcare for treatment.
Price is facing aggravated neglect of the elderly charges.
